About us

The worship of Goddess Durga has been going on since ancient times on the coast of Karnataka, which is known as Parashurama Kshetra. Our Shree Mahishamardini temple is one of the goddess temples with such significance. This temple has a history of about 800 years and was established during the reign of Nanduraya, the king of Amparupura. Since then till today, Sri Devi is settled here along with the idols of Sri Veerabhadra and Sri Nagadeva, her attendant deities, fulfilling the wishes of the devotees who come to her.

Idols

Shri Mahishamardini Devi

Sri Mahishamardini Devi of Ampar, which was installed during the reign of the kings around 800 years ago, is the main attraction of this village. The special feature of the idol here is that Mahishamardini has only two hands.

Shri Veerabhadra Devaru

A Durgaparameshwari temple is unimaginable without the presence of Veerabhadra, the deity’s retinue. Sri Mahishamardini, which is situated as the village deity of Ampar, also has Shri Veerabhadra is the most important family deity here.

Naaga Devaru

Naga devatha worship is also an important special ritual on the coast known as Parashurama Kshetra. Shri Nagadeva, who collided with the soil here, influenced this entire area and uplifts the devotees who walk with faith and punishes those who do not believe and neglect them.

Managing Trustee

The Sri Mahishamardini temple in Ampar is still being run by the hereditary ruling of the Moktesara system. The puja kainkarya here also started from Ananta Bhatta, a native of Chawsikere, and this tradition has been going on from his descendants. The divine Ananta Bhatta was himself a great astrologer who learned Mantravada also. After him, his son Subraya Bhatt was himself a Nagapathri. Later, his son Ananta Bhatt continued his career as an astrologer and devoted himself to the worship of Sri Devi. Later his son Subraya Bhatt was also a famous Naga Patri. Later, his son Ganapati Bhat built a Kalyanamantapa near the temple and as its manager, he conducted the worship of the goddess without any defect. After his death, his son Shri Raviraj Bhat is carrying on the administration as Managing Trustee.

Renovation Program

As per Sri Devi’s wishes, the idol of Devi was changed in 2010 under the leadership of the current manager Raviraj Bhat. But currently, the program of renovating the Sri Mahishamardini temple is underway as per the wishes of Sri Devi. There is a plan to make a stone sanctum sanctorum of Sri Mahishamardini and cover it with copper. Also, many projects related to the temple such as Suttu Pauli, Hora Pauli, Mukhamantapa, Pushkarini, Mukhya dwara, Pakashala, Anna Chhatra, etc. have been adopted in this renovation program.

See what people say…

If you have faith in the place and trust the people there, your tasks will be accomplished, and your issues will be resolved. We were treated very kindly, and I would love to visit that temple again.
